Let Daddy know you love him.
I’m by the corner of my room, sitting at my desk, writing you this letter. It is my last week of summer, and classes start again in a few days, but I wanted to make time for you.
I know how it feels to be surrounded by people you love and people who love you back but still feel lonely. It’s like everyone around you is stuck in time, and you’re moving in every direction at the speed of light—sometimes you’re ahead and sometimes you’re behind.
You’ll come across difficult situations that seem impossible to get through, but know that if you ever get to read this letter, your Daddy somehow found to love himself so much that he felt ready to share this world with you.
I know it can seem like the world isn’t listening to you or you feel out of place, but my hope is that you find the courage you need to guide yourself towards happiness and peace—I’m still on my journey towards discovering what that means, and maybe by then, I’ll have an answer or not, but the key is to not give up.
I need you to know that I’m doing the best I can to navigate my way through our generations’ biggest threat, the climate crisis, and we’re still a long ways away from seeing the systemic change we need.
But, I’m fighting for you and our family. I’m listening and talking and writing and zooming and dreaming and praying so that someday I get to meet you.
No matter where I am, who I’m with or what I’m doing, know that I care about you and I mean it.
So, let Daddy know you love him, too.
p.s. in case we’re arguing, and you want to make up, my favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip and cookies from Great American Cookies.
